Ironman Triathalon

What started 13 years ago as a small event has grown over the years into an Ironman Triathlon that attracts approximately 2000 triathletes, making it one of the summers biggest events and a memorable experience for all involved.  There are two courses: the half ironman and the sprint triathlon.  The half ironman entails a swim of 1½ miles, biking for 56 miles, and a 13.1 mile run. It is a challenging course indeed. The sprint triathlon entails a swim of a 1/3 of a mile, biking for 15 miles, and a 3 mile run.

The date for this years event is August 16th, 2014

The entry fee is $89.00 if paid before 2/5/2014, and $110.00 thereafter.

What will you encounter on the course? The swimming will include water which is seldom flat and it's anything but tropical.  The water temperature can range from 71 to 79 degrees. If you hate cold water, wet suits can be worn, but they must meet certain guidelines. The biking aspect of the course will take you down roads with wide shoulders that are reasonably smooth.  There are some gentle rolling hills, and some challenging steeper grades up to 9%.  Take note that a helmet is required.  The run rewards you with scenery and shade, as you proceed along the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee.  The sometimes hot and humid August weather may be a factor in the run, but more often than not, mid August features comfortable temperature in the upper seventies and low 80's.  A light breeze is common near the shore, which might help keep you cool.
