Weirs Channel Cam

HOME » SPECIAL FEATURES » LIVE CHANNEL CAM » SELF UPDATING VIEW You Are Here

Welcome to the Weirs Channel Cam! What you are seeing is a shot of the channel of water that connects Lake Winnipesaukee to Paugus Bay. Visible is a marina, the drive in theater, and mountains including the Sandwich Range.

NOTICE:  The computer which runs the channel cam and the weather station died following the power outage from the heavy wet snow on march 28th.  A new computer was ordered but getting my hardware to work with windows vista has been a challenge.  I've decided to have the old computer repaired.  I'm not sure when exactly the cam will be back online but it shouldn't be too much longer.

New Camera Goals
How To Support The Channel Cam & This Website

The channel cam is run from a standard camcorder that is left outside year round and on 24 hours a day.  I don't know how long they will last under those conditions, but after five years, its life simply must be nearing the end. If you enjoy checking out the channel cam, please consider making a donation. Your money will be used to purchase a new camera as soon as possible, with the hopes that when the current cam dies, I'll be able to get a new one instantly as opposed to dealing with the possibility of several months of downtime.

I'd like to get the Cadillac of webcams, but the price tag is a rather steep $899.  It gets worse.  A $179 zoom lens is needed along with a $79 router to connect it to the web. So, I'm looking to raise about $1200.  That'll be tough, and it will take some time, which is why I'm starting it now.  The quality of the proposed new camera is unbelievably good.  It's a one megapixel camera that can snap HUGE 1280x960 sized images AND allows images to be archived.  In the event we don't reach the goal, the lower quality $599 cam will be used.  It's ok, but not great. I will update this page with the progress as donations come in.  You can donate quickly and easily below with PayPal or you can send a check payable to Scott MacLeod to 1025 Weirs Blvd, Laconia, NH 03246.
