Wondering how the trail conditions are? You're not
alone. There are several sources of trail information,
many of which are updated frequently. We have listed some of the
best sources of information below.
An average winter will yield
enough snow often enough to keep trails in good to excellent
condition, but with thousands of miles of trails, there will
always be spots that take a beating and become rough. To hit the
trails when the riding is best, follow a few of these tips.
Excessive traffic can wear down
a trail no matter how much and how consistently snow falls. Try
to avoid peak times, such as weekends and holidays. If possible,
ride in the morning as opposed to the evenings.
It can take several days for
groomers to get out and groom every trail. If it snows a lot
tonight, don't expect everything to be ready for you the next
day. The groomers are run by volunteers, not a highly paid
staff. They groom whenever and as often as they can.
If it's above freezing, the
snow melts and refreezes leaving packed ice. If you want good
soft riding, check the temperatures over the past few days and
if there has been any snow.
